RIFF 08, 2022, 03: Lyricist Sayeed Qadri to be honoured with Hasrat Jaipuri Award

The 8th edition of the Rajasthan International Film Festival (RIFF) will be organised by RIFF Film Club from 25 to 30 March, 2022. It will also celebrate Rajasthan Diwas, the Founding Day of Rajasthan state, which falls on 30 March. Somendra Harsh, Founder and Festival Director stated, "This year, writer and lyricist Sayeed Qadri will be awarded the Hasrat Jaipuri Award for his Contribution in Cinema. The award is given every year at RIFF in the memory of famous Jaipur-born lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri to a personality of the film world who has dedicated his entire life to music."

Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Sayeed Qadri's career started with director Mahesh Bhatt's film Jism. He wrote some of the best songs of the film Jism, which also became a huge hit. Sayeed Qadri considers Sahir Ludhianvi as his inspiration. He has received IIFA, Stardust, MTV and Tata Info Awards, for Best Lyricist. Saeed Qadri has delivered one-of-a-kind hits like Jadu Hai Nasha Hai (Jism, 2003), Bheegey Hont Tere (Murder 2004), Agar Tum Mil Jao (Zehar, 2005) and Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai (Gangster, 2006). Sayeed Qadri showed new colours of Urdu poetry to the new generation of the first decade of the 21st century, which was well-liked by the youth. His songs have simplicity, depth and go straight to the heart. Sayeed Qadri believes that only those songs get popular where the audience finds a direct connection with their life memories, and where the listener sees his story in the song.

Initially, when Sayeed Qadri was disappointed after not getting any work, he returned to Jodhpur, after spending a few years in Mumbai. When the domestic responsibilities increased, he became a Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) agent in Jodhpur. But when Mahesh Bhatt came to Jodhpur, he gave him an opportunity in his daughter Pooja Bhatt's film, and his first song came, Aawarapan. After that, the journey continued. Qadri has written 150+ songs so far, including Phir Mohabbat Karne Chala Hai Tu (Murder 2), sung by Arijit Singh, Woh Lamhe (Zehar) by Atif Aslam and Tere Bin Main Yun Kaise Jiyaan (Bas Ek Pal), Roop Kumar Rathod's voice singing Aankhen Teri (Anwar) and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Jiya Dhadhak Dhadhak Jaye.

Anshu Harsh, the Managing Trustee of RIFF Film Club, said "In this edition Short, Documentary, Animation, Feature, Regional, Rajasthani films, as well as music albums, can be submitted, by visiting the website www.riffjaipur.org, and also by film freeway.
