Dutch feature film Silent Ones by Ricky Rijneke has been selected for the New York No Limits Series 2014 Summit in the category Competition for Best Feature Film.
The 2014 Summit held from 20 to 22 November at The Wild Project in 195 E 3rd St. Lower East Side New York, has selected 5 feature films and 14 shorts.
NEW YORK NO LIMITS is an ongoing film series in New York City. The series seeks to discover diverse and daring films that reflect the purest vision of the filmmaker. The goal of NYNL is to create a film program of diverse and visionary independent films from around the world. The series provides filmmakers the opportunity to present innovative, taboo and diverse films to a new audience at the state of the art Wild Project event space.
Silent Ones Ricky Rijneke’s first feature film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam nominated for the Tiger Award, the competition program and flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Since then Silent Ones has been screened at many international festivals including Sarajevo, Sao Paulo, Moscow, Montreal, Los Angeles and Berlin, winning seven international awards out of eleven nominations. At the Berlin Independent Film Festival the film won the main prize for Best Film, it was awarded twice at the LosAngeles Women’s Independent Film Festival. Prizes include Best Debut, Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography. Recently it won Best Female Director at the Toronto Independent Film Festival.
Silent Ones tells the story of a young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) whose little brother Isti has disappeared without a trace. She leaves aboard a cargo ship heading to Western Europe to keep her promise to him. The journey turns into a surreal trip on the fragile edge of life and death.

Silent Ones produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden) has been supported by the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondrian Fund. French sales agent Wide Management handles international sales. The film will be released theatrically in the Netherlands in December 2014.
